FULL NEW HAMPSHIRE HOUSE PASSES BILL AUTHORIZING NEW
AMERICAN COLLEGE OF HISTORY AND LEGAL STUDIES TO GRANT
BACHELOR'S DEGREES
SALEM, NH- The New Hampshire House of Representatives today passed the bill to
confer degree-granting authority on the American College of History and Legal Studies
(ACHLS), which is a revolutionary new senior college set to open in Salem in August in
2010.
New Hampshire Senate Bill #312, which earlier passed the full State Senate
unanimously, was passed on a voice vote by the full New Hampshire House. The bill
next moves to the desk of Governor John Lynch, who is expected to sign it into law.
"We look forward to Governor Lynch signing our bill as soon as possible," said Maureen
Mooney, the chief operating officer of the college. "We are overwhelmed by the support
we have received from every member of the Senate and the House. In a 424-member
legislature, that speaks volumes about the mission of the ACHLS. The new college is
being embraced by the State of New Hampshire. We're excited about opening our
campus in August and welcoming our first class of students."
The ACHLS is a senior college offering the junior and senior years of undergraduate
education and will grant bachelor's degrees with a major in history and legal studies.
Moreover, the college will provide guaranteed pathways into the Massachusetts School of
Law for qualified students and give them the opportunity to earn their law degree in only
six years instead of the traditional seven years.
The high quality education will prepare graduates to compete with anybody in today's
competitive marketplace, yet it will also be very affordable. Tuition is only $10,000 per
year and half-tuition scholarships of $5,000 are available to qualified students. The
college will hold classes in the evening at its Salem campus to allow students to balance
their lives should they choose to work while finishing their bachelor's degree.
The ACHLS is currently accepting applications from students who have completed at
least two years of college and wish to major in history and legal studies.
